Quiver Tree Forest

the largest gathering of Aloe dichotoma in the Southern hemisphere - ± 25 km north of Nieuwoudtville, 2 km on the dirt road to Gannabos and very close from the farm.
The forest is predominantly made up of Quiver Trees (Aloe dichotoma).
Quiver Trees are known for their striking, sculptural appearance with smooth, light-colored bark and distinctive branches that reach upwards.
The trees can grow up to 9 meters tall and live for several centuries.
Best time to Visit: Spring (August to September) is an excellent time to visit when the surrounding wildflowers are in bloom, creating a vibrant landscape.

Nieuwoudtville Waterfall

± 5km out of Nieuwoudtville on the Loeriesfontein road.
The waterfall is most impressive during the rainy season (late winter to early spring), when the water flow is at its peak
The surroundings of the waterfall are home to various plant species, including succulents and wildflowers, particularly vibrant during the spring bloom
The waterfall can be reached by a short drive from Nieuwoudtville, followed by a hike to the viewing points.

Circle-route

Hantam National Botanical Garden

(Glen Lyon farm): 2 km on dirt road south from Nieuwoudtville.These gardens are open 7:30-16:30 weekdays only Oct-Jul, 8:00-17:00 every day Aug-Sep (flower season). R25 adult, R20 pensioner, R15 student, R12 child. Dogs are not allowed in the gardens. Picnics welcome, but no braais. Hiking trails in the garden range from 450 m to 8 km.Apart from the Spring flower season, there is an additional ‘secret season’ at Hantam in autumn (often mid-late March but unpredictable) when spectacular pink lilies flower, covering the desert in a sea of colour.

Glacial pavement

On dirt road past Glen Lyon, about 14 km south of Nieuwoudtville.The glacial pavement is roughly 8 km south of town along a good gravel road, and well-signed with parking in a small pull-off on the road. A few metres from the car park is exposed rock in which you can see undulations and scrapes on its surface. These grooves and the smoothness of the rock were formed by glaciers moving in the region roughly 300 million years ago. It’s worth popping by if you’re heading further south, perhaps to the farms of Matjiesfontein or Papkuilsfontein

Oorlogskloof Nature reserve

The Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve (Afrikaans for war-gorge), covers 4,776 hectares (11,800 acres) and is located 10 km south of Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape, South Africa.The Oorlogskloof River gorge runs along the eastern border of the reserve; the western part is bordered by the Knersvlakte. Numerous streams dissect the mountainous terrain, resulting in gorges, 36 natural pools and waterfalls throughout the reserve.There are also examples of rock art in caves found beside some of the plateaus of the reserve.
